A genuine Champagne Riddler Rack, one of the most elegant and storied objects in the history of winemaking.
The art of riddling (or remuage) was invented in 1819 by the formidable Madame Clicquot of the Veuve Clicquot fame, who drilled angled holes into her kitchen table so that champagne bottles could be slowly rotated and tilted, coaxing the yeast sediment down into the neck to create the crystal clear wine we know today. For over a century, skilled remueurs would hand turn up to 60,000 bottles per day in the dim, chalk-walled cellars of Champagne. Today, most of that work is done by machine, which makes a riddlers rack a genuinely rare and beautiful piece of history.
