A genuine 'Champagne Blondel' Oak Riddler rack on castors (pic shows 2).

One of the most elegant and storied objects in the history of winemaking.

The art of riddling (or remuage) was invented in 1819 by the formidable Madame Clicquot of Veuve Clicquot fame, who drilled angled holes into her kitchen table so that champagne bottles could be slowly rotated and tilted, coaxing the yeast sediment down into the neck to create the crystal clear wine we know today. For over a century, skilled remueurs would hand turn up to 60,000 bottles a day in the dim, chalk walled cellars of Champagne. Today most of that work is done by machine, which makes real riddlers a genuinely rare and beautiful piece of history.

This riddler holds 120 wine / Champagne bottles (60 each side) and dates from 1920s. In excellent condition with a wonderful patina of age.

An extraordinary statement piece equally at home in a kitchen, bar, wine cellar or as a show stopping wedding or event prop. Functional and beautiful and one of a kind.
